Gratitude for Love, not Things

December 20, 2018

" Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the action that we do."

         ~Saint Teresa of Calcutta

While I will be the first to tell you that I LOVE new pretty shiny things, ( like the Apple Watch on my Christmas List), I also firmly believe this: It will not bring me Joy. That is an inside job.

Sure, I was that girl who had to have the right jeans, boots, as much as the next girl, yet I am also the one who learned over and over again that those things will not fill the inner void that sits inside of you.

Love is the only thing that can truly complete us. Having all the kids and their significant others over for a Sunday dinner, all huddled around the TV laughing at Home Alone for the fourth time, being the first one that they reach out to on their latest victory or good grade. There is no comparison between these moments and the artificial one found at the mall.

Comparison is another thief of our Joy, which in and of itself will leave us empty. In truth the only comparison game we should be participating in is to be better today then we were yesterday.

If you didn't run or exercise when you should have, don't beat yourself up, just set the alarm for an hour earlier tomorrow morning and bang it out. Go even further then originally planned.

Be grateful for the healthy body and motivation that you have most of the time, after all not one of us is perfect and I believe that most people do the best they can with the knowledge that they have.

I have more then I did a year ago, and will continue to strive to keep learning, doing, teaching, and growing.

In closing up for the year I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year, and also to spend some time writing down what you are particularly grateful for this season.

Thank You for this beautiful day, this very moment right now.

Thank You for the breath which flows in and out of my body, for the eyes in which I see, and the ears in which I hear.

Thank You for the extraordinary gift of life and love, help me to rise above my thoughts and to better serve others, the world and myself.

Thank You for all of the people I know, the ones I love and for the ones who help me grow.

Thank you for the things that lift me up, and for the wisdom to appreciate all of the beauty surrounding me.

In Peace and Blessings,

Barbara
