Magnesium Deficiency

April 19, 2018

Magnesium is a mineral in our body which greatly impacts our immune function, blood pressure, metabolism, and the biochemical reactions in our body. It turns out that many of us are severely deficient. The mineral regulates the calcium, potassium and sodium in our body, playing a very important role in overall health. I recently found out that I am deficient, when I  began struggling  with strange symptoms like numbness, tingling, and muscle spasms. I began taking a magnesium supplement of 500 mg a day, and my symptoms have disappeared.

It turns out that the common symptoms of magnesium deficiency include:

Muscle spasms and cramps, as well as muscle stiffening and twitches

Anxiety-Restlessness

High blood pressure-

Abnormal heart rhythms-palpitations

Sleep Problems-Insomnia

Fatigue-weakness

Bone Health

Hormone Health

Severe magnesium deficiency will also result in low levels of calcium in the blood, or hypocalcemia, low levels of potassium, or hypokalemia.

This condition can go hand and hand with diabetes and heart disease.

If you are feeling any of these symptoms on a daily basis I urge you to talk to your Doctor about having your magnesium levels checked.
