The Magic of Coconut Oil

The health benefits of incorporating coconut oil into your life are huge. I use it as a substitute for butter and shortening in recipes for baking or sautéing, gives a wonderful flavor and the added bonus of boosting energy levels, raising the good cholesterol, and balancing out blood sugar without all of the health risks associated with trans fats.

A spoonful gives a quick energy boost, is easily digested and does not produce a insulin spike in your blood sugar.

I have been using coconut oil in my coffee for some time now. I gave up sugar and needed to add a natural sweetener, this works fantastic! I enjoy the taste mixed with a soy or almond milk mixed in, it really gives a delicious flavor.

Coconut oil is antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal and aids in the absorption of vitamins and minerals, boosting their effectiveness.Â

I use it as a skin lotion, using it all over as a body moisturizer,  especially on my feet! It is safe to use on the face because it is naturally anti bacterial. Works wonders as a lip balm, and deep conditioning treatment for my hair. Apply it to wet hair and leave it in for 30 minutes, leaves a soft natural shine and lovely scent. If you are like me and you have frizzy or dry hair, it can be used as a hair gloss throughout the day to add shine and reduce frizz, just use a tiny bit, it goes along way.

There are two kinds of coconut oil, virgin ( meaning not processed ) and RBD ( refined, bleached, deodorized). I personally use the virgin because it has the original coconut scent and flavor, and I want to stick with the more natural version, although either one has benefits.Â

Overall internal benefits includes promoting healthy heart and brain functioning, supports proper thyroid function and strengthens the immune system.

The MCFA's ( medium chain fatty acids) found in coconut oil produce a natural lasting energy that won't produce the usual crash found from caffeine or sugar.Â
I have been adding two tablespoons to my day, and I have noticed a definite boost to my overall health.
